Job Description
Internal Project Manager
Expectations of an Internal Project Manager
Internal Project Managers lead strategic and operational initiatives across the organization. They are responsible for clearly defining and communicating the project journey to internal stakeholders — what will happen, when it will happen, who is accountable for each deliverable, and what success looks like.
They align departments, manage interdependencies, and ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and within budget. Strong Internal Project Managers mitigate risk, drive accountability, and enable the organization to execute efficiently and consistently.
Your Responsibilities
Consistently apply and demonstrate adherence to corporate PMO methodology, governance standards, and best practices
Lead cross-functional internal projects and initiatives from initiation through closure
Clearly define project scope, deliverables, timelines, roles, and responsibilities
Drive alignment across departments and influence stakeholders to support agreed-upon outcomes
Ensure required project artifacts and documentation are completed and maintained
Proactively identify, mitigate, and resolve issues and risks to achieve target milestones and project closure
Manage projects to be on time, within scope, and within budget
Provide strong leadership, coordination, and coaching to cross-functional team members
Promote accountability and transparency across all project participants
Performance Criteria
Career development is based on a combination of objective performance metrics and observed leadership behaviors.
Key performance indicators may include (but are not limited to):
On-time and on-budget project delivery
Achievement of defined business outcomes
Quality of stakeholder engagement and satisfaction
Accuracy and completeness of project documentation and reporting
Data integrity within project tracking systems
Reduction in cycle time from project initiation to closure
Ability to successfully manage competing priorities
Consistent achievement of performance metrics is a key factor in advancement discussions.

Maintains full accountability for project outcomes
Project Management Fundamentals
Scope & Change Management
Sets clear expectations with internal stakeholders regarding scope boundaries
Distinguishes between refinements to existing requirements and net-new scope additions
Communicates impacts of scope changes on timeline, cost, and resources
Identifies and manages scope creep, escalating appropriately
Documents and governs change requests using established processes
Demonstrates strong understanding of the relationship between scope, time, and cost
Stakeholder Management
Identifies key stakeholders and assesses influence, interest, and impact
Builds strong working relationships across departments
