Job Overview The GO Foundational Systems and Platforms organization is at the core of this mission. We are responsible for providing real-time, accurate inventory data and building the highly available, scalable systems necessary to handle the massive inventory traffic supporting Coupang’s rapidly growing business. Delivering products to millions of online shoppers presents a continuous, complex architecture challenge. To meet this critical demand, we are seeking an accomplished Engineering Director who is a passionate and visionary leader. The ideal candidate will thrive on leading teams that design and build large-scale, multi-tiered, and distributed software solutions. This role requires a strong blend of excellent people management skills, sharp business acumen, and rich experience in developing extensible and scalable solutions for complex business features. Responsibilities Build the reliable and scalable Inventory management services Review projects' ability to deliver robust and scalable solutions toward this vision, learning and incorporating new technologies as appropriate. Build relationships with other Software Development Managers, Engineers and Product Managers across various Coupang engineering teams. Participate in the architecture, development, testing, deployment, and delivery of large-scale global software applications, systems, platforms, services or technologies. Participate in Agile project management methodologies to provide technical leadership and project management for all aspects of the software development lifecycle (SDLC). Build, manage, and develop world-class engineers including hiring recommendations and guide and mentor engineers and project managers within and outside of the team. Ensure high quality design reviews which meet business and architectural goals and drive critical feedback on architecture and design issues. Participate in strategic planning to achieve technical and business goals with team, leadership chain, and with customers. Essential Qualifications 7+ years of experience working directly within engineering teams in a fast-moving environment. 3+ years of people management experience, managing engineers. 3+ years of experience architecting and designing (architecture, design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and current systems. Extensive experience in managing mission critical services with high throughput and low latency. Experience in collaborating with cross-functional teams to define mission, vision, and roadmaps.
