Sr. Android Engineer

<p>Navan is looking for a Staff Android Engineer to serve as a technical architect for our mobile ecosystem. In this role, you will solve organization-wide technical challenges, focusing on high-level system architecture, cross-platform strategy, and technical leadership. You will ensure our mobile platform can scale to support engineers and complex global travel requirements without friction.</p> <p><strong>What You’ll Do:</strong></p> <ul> <li><strong>Drive the Vision:</strong> Partner with engineering and product leadership to identify, plan, and execute the long-term technical vision for the Android platform.</li> <li><strong>Architect Scalable Systems:</strong> Drive frameworks and modularization strategies that lead to significant improvements in developer velocity and user experience.</li> <li><strong>Lead Through Influence:</strong> Provide technical leadership and mentoring to other mobile engineers across multiple teams.</li> <li><strong>Resolve Systemic Debt:</strong> Identify and resolve organization-wide technical debt, assisting teams in understanding and adopting new technologies safely.</li> <li><strong>Optimize Developer Experience:</strong> Improve CI/CD pipelines and Gradle build performance to support a large-scale engineering organization.</li> <li><strong>Collaborate Cross-Functionally:</strong> Work closely with Product and Sales teams to deliver high-impact features that align with global business needs.</li> </ul> <p><strong>What We’re Looking For:</strong></p> <ul> <li><strong>8-10 years</strong> of software engineering experience, with a focus on large-scale distributed mobile systems.</li> <li><strong>Architectural Mastery:</strong> Proven experience turning ambiguous problem spaces into clear, scalable architectural solutions.</li> <li><strong>Deep Systems Knowledge:</strong> Expertise in lower-level Android concerns: bytecode manipulation, custom Gradle plugins, and advanced threading models.</li> <li><strong>Leadership:</strong> Demonstrated ability to influence, working with technical and cross-functional teams to drive alignment.</li> <li><strong>Modern Ecosystem:</strong> In-depth experience with the modern Android stack (<strong>Kotlin</strong>, <strong>Compose</strong>, <strong>Coroutines</strong>) and cloud-based mobile infrastructure.</li> <li><strong>Problem Solver:</strong> Comfort with thinking outside the box to implement solutions for high-volume, enterprise-grade applications.</li> <li><strong>Strategic Thinking:</strong> Experience designing mobile architectures that support global localization, accessibility, and high-performance data syncing.</li> <li><strong>Innovation Mindset:</strong> Ability to leverage AI development tools (Cursor, Copilot) to accelerate the mobile SDLC while maintaining strict quality gates.</li> </ul>
