Job Description
At Insmed, every moment and every patient counts — and so does every person who joins in. As a global biopharmaceutical company dedicated to transforming the lives of patients with serious and rare diseases, you’ll be part of a community that prioritizes the human experience, celebrates curiosity, and values every person’s contributions to meaningful progress. That commitment has earned us recognition as Science magazine’s No. 1 Top Employer for five consecutive years, certification as a Great Place to Work® in the U.S., and a place on The Sunday Times Best Places to Work list in the UK.
For patients, for each other, and for the future of science, we’re in. Are you?
About the Role:
We’re looking for a Scientist, Biologics Research on the Biologics Research team to help us expand what’s possible for patients with serious diseases. Reporting to the Sr Director, Research, you’ll work within a multidisciplinary team of scientists focused on the design, engineering, formulation development, and preclinical characterization of ground-breaking biotherapeutics. Specifically, you will help lead engineering and optimization campaigns for a diverse array of biomolecular scaffolds including enzymes, catalysts, binding and targeting moieties, signaling molecules, and drug delivery platforms of biological origin.
What You'll Do:
In this role, you’ll have the opportunity to support discovery and development campaigns focused on next-generation biotherapies for serious unmet medical needs. You’ll also:
Help drive biomolecular engineering, immunology, and pharmacology efforts within Insmed research projects, including strategy and methods development
Construct recombinant systems encoding protein variants and combinatorial protein libraries
Conceptualize, construct, validate, and implement high throughput screening platforms to enable candidate selection from large panels and/or combinatorial libraries of engineered protein variants
Devise, optimize, and employ tailored protein expression and purification strategies for drug discovery programs
Develop, validate, and deploy functional, immunological, and pharmacological, assays to characterize protein performance in vitro (both exogenous and cell-based assays) and in vivo
Maintain accurate, detailed, and timely records of methods development, experimental data, and data analysis in an electronic notebook system
Perform data review to ensure accuracy, completeness, and validity
Participate in cross-disciplinary mentoring and training within the research team
Present scientific results to the larger Insmed research group and external scientific community, as needed
Who You Are:
You have a PhD in molecular and cellular biology, bioengineering, biochemistry, immunology, microbiology or related fields. You are or you also have:
Deep technical understanding of and hands-on experience with molecular and cellular biology, mammalian tissue culture, recombinant DNA technology, protein mutagenesis, and protein biochemistry
Experience with recombinant protein expression and purification as well as routine protein characterization methods including but not limited to spectroscopy, SDS-PAGE, western blot, and ELISA
Experience with enzyme analysis and characterization and/or protein-protein binding analysis and characterization
Experience with high throughput functional screen development for protein libraries, AAV viral vectors, gene editing, and in vivo (rodent) are also preferred but not required
Must have excellent communication (verbal and written) and problem-solving skills
Highly organized with a strong attention to detail, clarity, accuracy, and conciseness
Proven track record in methods development, including experimental design, execution, and evaluation
Where You’ll Work
This role is based out of our Lebanon, NH Research Development Lab and requires full-time, in-person presence to support hands-on collaboration, access specialized equipment, and/or operational needs.
