Job Description
Director, Growth Engineering
ABOUT THE COMPANY:
At Scribd Inc. (pronounced “scribbed”), our mission is to spark human curiosity. Join our team as we create a world of stories and knowledge, democratize the exchange of ideas and information, and empower collective expertise through our four products: Everand, Scribd, Slideshare, and Fable.
This posting reflects an approved, open position within the organization.
We support a culture where our employees can be real and be bold; where we debate and commit as we embrace plot twists; and where every employee is empowered to take action as we prioritize the customer.
When it comes to workplace structure, we believe in balancing individual flexibility and community connections. It’s through our flexible work benefit, Scribd Flex, that employees – in partnership with their manager – can choose the daily work-style that best suits their individual needs. A key tenet of Scribd Flex is our prioritization of intentional in-person moments to build collaboration, culture, and connection. For this reason, occasional in-person attendance is required for all Scribd Inc. employees, regardless of their location.
So what are we looking for in new team members? Well, we hire for “GRIT”. The textbook definition of GRIT is demonstrating the intersection of passion and perseverance towards long term goals. At Scribd Inc., we are inspired by the potential that this can unlock, and ask each of our employees to pursue a GRIT-ty approach to their work. In a tactical sense, GRIT is also a handy acronym that outlines the standards we hold ourselves and each other to. Here’s what that means for you: we’re looking for someone who showcases the ability to set and achieve Goals, achieve Results within their job responsibilities, contribute Innovative ideas and solutions, and positively influence the broader Team through collaboration and attitude.
ABOUT THE ROLE
We're looking for a Director of Engineering to own the engineering vision, strategy, and execution for Scribd's growth organization. You will build modern growth and MarTech systems for a global audience of +200M monthly visitors and +2M paying subscribers across multiple brands.
You'll lead an organization of approximately 25 engineers across three teams, directly managing a growth platform team while providing strategic and organizational leadership across the full group. You will operate at two altitudes simultaneously: hands-on with your platform team while setting direction, raising the bar, and removing obstacles across the broader org.
This is a high-ownership leadership role for a Director who is both people-first and visionary: someone who is passionate about growth engineering and maximizing the potential of an already high-performing team.
This role requires deep technical expertise in designing and shipping growth systems. You’ll partner closely with leaders in Product, Performance Marketing, Partnerships, Data Platform, and Analytics to build reliable foundations, and to translate growth strategy into high-leverage technical capabilities.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Define the growth engineering strategy. Audit the current state of our growth tooling, data pipelines, experimentation infrastructure, lifecycle messaging, analytics, and attribution. Develop a technical roadmap in close partnership with product leadership.
- Build and lead the growth platform team. Take direct management of a 5-person team focused on our growth platform. Establish engineering practices and define the team charter. Create team identity and build the team to full strength.
- Lead a high-performing growth engineering organization. Provide organizational leadership across all three growth engineering teams. Assess team boundaries, build alignment on shared engineering standards, and strengthen the culture of experimentation rigor. Maintain engineering quality while strategically balancing speed and technical debt.
- Drive agentic engineering adoption. Lead ... (truncated, view full listing at source)
